Where were you?

I was fourteen and had just started at a new school in a new town a few days before. A girl in my class, Jo, knew some people in America and she'd been getting messages but we didn't know what had happened. Being new to the town and not knowing my way around yet my mum came to collect me. As I got into the car she just said "something's happened in America" and we drove home and watched the news for hours and hours in complete disbelief. I didn't even know what the Twin Towers were until that day.

Wow, I haven't posted here in ages, but I wanted to answer. I can't believe it's been ten years.

Based on the books on your bookshelf, what conclusions would people draw about you?

1. That I am a bibliophile, I have a lot of books.
2. That I read a lot of fantasy and therefore like to escape reality.
3. That I haven't grown up, I still have a great many children's and YA books.
4. That I love Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, Narnia and Richard Sharpe.
5. That I'm obsessed with classic literature, I have a bookcase devoted to it and it still doesn't fit.
6. That I am obsessed with Doctor Who. Though you'd know that long before the bookshelves.
7. That I'm a complete geek.
8. That I really should invest in some more bookcases.

Upon asking my mother her response was "that you're a nutter!" Yeah, thanks mum.

Listen up people, I am pimping my sister (not in that way you filthy minded so-and-so!)
She has been nominated in the Cosmo Blog Awards and I hereby beg for your vote.
Please click here and vote for London Beauty Queen in the Beauty category.
And if you're interested in makeup and beauty and, I dunno, girly stuff, then you should check out her blog. She's my sister so you know she's awesome simply through being related to me though we are pretty much complete opposites. I'll just be over here playing with my Doctor Who figures =D

Ta muchly lovely people.

I was very bored so I present, a picture of me!
I know, you are shocked, I am not actually a super-computer or an eighty year old man.
Just me. With my sonic screwdriver. Cause I'm cool like that.

Oh yeah, here I am. Hello.Collapse )

I just watched the first episode, A Study In Pink, of the new BBC series Sherlock on the iPlayer (I was still feeling ill when it was on the tv). I am extrememely glad to say that any and all doubts I had about this show were completely unfounded, not that I should have doubted since it's been made by Steven Moffat, but I bloody loved it, so much so that I just went and pre-ordered the dvd. I was slightly worried when this show was first announced, about how they would update the Holmes world which is firmly cemented in my mind as a time of carriages, cobbled streets, pipes and opium addiction, but the modern setting actually felt very natural, not forced at all. Holmes was played brilliantly by Benedict Cumberbatch (and with a name like that you know he's going to be awesome) and I'm glad to see they've kept him as the almost sociopath he's always been and there was some implying of his drug use too. Martin Freeman was also fantastic as a far more modern Dr Watson, a far cry from his most famous role as Tim in The Office. The first episode was an updated version of A Study In Scarlet and as I said was bloody good, I loved how they showed us how Sherlock was thinking by putting words and pictures on the screen so we could see his process. And I cannot have been the only one to have had a little geekgasm when Moriarty was finally named at the end, I'm very interested to see how they're going to bring him into the modern world.

Is it tomorrow yet?
And where is my Sherlock Holmes book set hiding?

Warning: Rant about my mental health.

You know, I think that my mother has no idea about just how insane parts of my mind are, I mean, she knows I have trouble with communication and outside but she doesn't get the amount of crazy about completely mundane and insignificant things. I just had a twenty minute meltdown because she made me dinner. Now this was a nice thing to do by normal people standards, I am the cooking person in my house and for very good reason since I'm clearly insane and so it was a thoughtful and pleasant thing for her to do but the problem was that she made it (to my insane mind) wrong. It was simple, nothing actually wrong about it to any sane person, pork, mashed potato and sweetcorn with some gravy. But oh the panic it managed to induce in me. For you see, to my completely irrational brain it was completely inedible because pork steaks are not meant to be cooked in the oven but should instead be cut up and stir-fried and served with rice. And mashed potato only ever goes with lamb steaks. And oxo-cube gravy is just very, very wrong under all circumstances. And the sweetcorn was touching the potato. And the spoon was a spoon for stirring tea not eating pudding. (There was also a mini trifle, the spoon was for that not the pork.)

So yep, major crazy person meltdown. Took me five minutes to be able to look at it long enough to take it back in the kitchen. And to get the right kind of spoon. So now I can eat my mini trifle thing like a crazy person. And make a meal I can eat without having a spasm when my mum has gone out.

Sometimes I really fucking hate my brain.

What is your opinion of the death penalty? How important is this issue in deciding which political candidates you support?

I am completely against it, for several reasons that I am far too tired to go into right now. Thankfully we don't have the death penalty here in England so it has no bearing on which political candidates I would support.

What is your greatest fear? Do you think you'll ever overcome it?

There aren't many things that frighten me but the things that do scare the crap out of me; fire, spiders, toes (seriously, yes I know I am a crazy person) and outside, places that are too big or noisy or crowded. All panic attack inducing for me. I doubt I'll ever get over any of them, not without a shedload of psychiatric assistance anyway.
